When I was a girl, I had a number of physical "attributes" which I fretted about and caused me all sorts of grief. One of them, I swear, a song was written about (see title of this post). If you don't know this song, don't go lookin' up the lyrics as they are crude, but you get the general idea. I remember when I was young I never enjoyed that song and always turned it OFF as back then I was far too insecure. As I have matured (ha! a nice word for aged), some of these don't bother me so much anymore. I don't know if it is because I have grown to ignore them or accept them. I will have to ponder that.
What about you? Do you have a physical or personality trait which once was seen as a flaw but has ended up helping you succeed in life? Or maybe it is the other way around. Perhaps certain physical or mental traits once seen as an advantage have hindered your life's journey.
Feel free to explore this in a variety of ways. Perhaps it is something you see in others: your child, a friend, an enemy, a movie star... So hop aboard and let's JAM that Poetry!

ha fun spin...i do have a rather large...nose...
ReplyDeleteI've always hated my nose. Even went to plastic surgeon at one point who told me I didn't have a problem. I'd probably still have it thinned a bit now, if I had the $$$ and nerve to do it. I'm going to check for this book. Interesting post, thanks!
ReplyDeletePS: That same Doc told me that NO ONE likes their nose. ;<)
ReplyDeleteMust be something about noses! Mine is also big (a Jewish thing!) and I hated it. When I had surgery to correct a deviated septum, I had the option of having a nose job at that time and decided not to. By then I guess I had learned to live with my looks as they were. And my septum re-deviated-go figure!
ReplyDeleteNoses! Mine has had skin cancer surgery on both sides, skin flaps to close ... I never loved my nose, but I know I'm lucky to have mine ... scars and all. That's why makeup was invented!
ReplyDeleteMine was a label of shyness, which, upon my entering the teen years, my parents realized was a complete misnomer. Great prompt, Margaret!
ReplyDeleteNoses are always such a delicate thing.
ReplyDeleteLove the Blog. Dont the jamming with the poetry :)

ReplyDeleteHonestly...I REALLY hate that when I don't shave, my legs and arms are sofreakinghairy. And I'm a girl. :(((
ReplyDeleteI posted. Mine's about my nose as well! Is there a pattern here?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the prompt, Margaret, it's really gotten me thinking.
I've maybe gone a bit over the age limit...
ReplyDeleteYou have a great articles. Thanks for sharing. And dont forget to visit me back at here
ReplyDeleteAunt Helen always said that my feet were like boatyards and my nose turned up because that's how I caught the drips!!....I was very young then!
ReplyDeleteMine is not my nose. In fact I have always liked my nose. As a young girl growing up I had a great figure until you looked below my knees. Enjoyed participating in this very much. This was the first that I heard poetry jam. fun
ReplyDeleteThis is great!
ReplyDeleteWow... such awesome writes!
ReplyDeleteMine is my name - no problem for the first 30 years of my life and then ......
ReplyDeleteI loved this prompt, but I couldn't get anywhere I wanted to with it. Maybe that's not such a bad thing--getting stuck...But really, I thought the responses were interesting and good. I am going to reread everything when I have a bit more time.

ReplyDeleteI've always hated my nose. D:
ReplyDeleteNot sure if anyone reads these 2 weeks after-the-fact, but I did finally get a poem. Like I wrote previously, I found this to be a rich prompt.
