Deep

Deep. Always there is depth.  All around us if we but look.
                                                                        Anonymous

Think about deep.

It can be a modifier or a noun,  with meanings including extending far from the surface, intense, extreme, meaningful as well as the bottom of the ocean or any remote, mysterious region.

We talk about deep in the jungle, deep space, deep green, deep winter, deep water, deep in thought, dig deep, deep depression, she is a deep one, deep sleep.  For poets too it might mean looking deep inside yourself--or someone else--for your writing topic. What does it mean to know what's deep inside? What does it mean to know someone deeply?

Deep can be used as a metaphor with many layers. Try to go unexpected places with this.

Just let your mind drift and see where it takes you. Post your efforts using Mr. Linky.  I look forward to reading what you do.

  3. This was tough but good. I took a rather oblique approach to the prompt. Hope you all don't mind!

  6. This prompt has yielded rich fruit, I see.

I can't say as much for my poem, but I'll post it anyway. Usually I like deep--deep anything--water, thoughts, emotions, muscles, blood. But I must be feeling surly because I wrote sort of surly poem.

  12. I am a bit too prompt dependent. The word 'deep' made me think and I have posted a poem that I came up with. But I guess, it does not connect to the word in a very strict sense. But anyway... :)

  16. Thank you all for responding to my prompt, "deep," here at Poetry Jam. I was feeling somewhat shy about jumping in when Mary asked me if I would like to try a prompt but all the response really encouraged me! I love the world of online poetry--wonderful to connect even briefly with so many poets!

  17. I guess 'inner' could be equated to 'deep'? Anyhow, I've linked in my latest In Tandem, in the hope that maybe one or two Jammers might be tempted to take a ride on it too.
I've also chosen to write a 'prose-poem' - 'cos I like experimenting, and would love to get some feedback, please...

  19. this is a cool prompt. Of course my mind jumped to the dirtiest meaning of 'deep' and I don't really think I can write a poem about that now can I :D
