What's the genre?

.
.
Our prompt for today is 'genres' which, according to Wikipedia   HERE  ~
"is the term for any category of literature or other forms of art or entertainment, e.g. music, whether written or spoken, audial or visual, based on some set of stylistic criteria. Genres are formed by conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones are discontinued. Often, works fit into multiple genres by way of borrowing and recombining these conventions."

  9. Dani, I bring you the wonderful world of melodrama, complete with heroine, villain, and hero. It's an oldie, but one that is almost new through revision and a little loving. Very fun prompt.

I had to look this up for the right words, but here is the garrulous Polonius (in Hamlet Act 2, Scene 2): "The best actors in the world, either for tragedy, comedy, history, pastoral, pastoral-comical, historical-pastoral, tragical-historical, tragical-comical-historical-pastoral, scene individable, or poem unlimited. Seneca cannot be too heavy, nor Plautus too light. For the law of writ and the liberty, these are the only men."

  12. This prompt couldn't be more timely:
It found right in the middle of a genry change in today's poem, which I didn't know how to accommodate. Thank you for this great post and the prompt.

  13. This prompt did not take me anywhere near where I thought it would...I ended up going a little bluegrass style with this one, the simple lyrics of reliance on family and faith found in so many bluegrass songs seemed so appropriate right now. This has ended up being the third year in a row we've had to help a friend say goodbye to an infant, and much of that emotion came out in this one. Oh yeah, I cried my eyes out writing it, you may need a tissue for this one.

  16. Off the top of my head:

Why don’t men like romcom -
those light and fluffy novels they deplore?
Is it that they feel inadequate
beside those hunky heroes girls adore?

  17. haha....i have no problem with rom com....viv...smiles.
