Our prompt for today is 'genres' which, according to Wikipedia HERE ~
"is the term for any category of literature or other forms of art or entertainment, e.g. music, whether written or spoken, audial or visual, based on some set of stylistic criteria. Genres are formed by conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones are discontinued. Often, works fit into multiple genres by way of borrowing and recombining these conventions."

ReplyDeleteInteresting prompt, Dani. I wrote my poem on "poetry," one of the genres of literature. Looking forward to what you all contribute this week.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting prompt. I chose a book and movie from the book. Thanks Dani and all at PJ
ReplyDeleteA wide open and interesting prompt ~ Thank you Dani ~
ReplyDeleteDani, I bring you the wonderful world of melodrama, complete with heroine, villain, and hero. It's an oldie, but one that is almost new through revision and a little loving. Very fun prompt.
ReplyDeleteI had to look this up for the right words, but here is the garrulous Polonius (in Hamlet Act 2, Scene 2): "The best actors in the world, either for tragedy, comedy, history, pastoral, pastoral-comical, historical-pastoral, tragical-historical, tragical-comical-historical-pastoral, scene individable, or poem unlimited. Seneca cannot be too heavy, nor Plautus too light. For the law of writ and the liberty, these are the only men."
Hello, Dani, thank you for a thought-provoking prompt. I just posted my poem inspired by my photographs from a recent trip. Enjoy! I will visit everyone in the next few days. <3
ReplyDeleteAnn Savage can come to my church social any time! Love that pic.
ReplyDeleteThis prompt couldn't be more timely:
ReplyDeleteIt found right in the middle of a genry change in today's poem, which I didn't know how to accommodate. Thank you for this great post and the prompt.
This prompt did not take me anywhere near where I thought it would...I ended up going a little bluegrass style with this one, the simple lyrics of reliance on family and faith found in so many bluegrass songs seemed so appropriate right now. This has ended up being the third year in a row we've had to help a friend say goodbye to an infant, and much of that emotion came out in this one. Oh yeah, I cried my eyes out writing it, you may need a tissue for this one.
ReplyDeletei just finished reading everyone's poems to this point ~ thank you all for such amazing poetry! the variety is stunning and i am grateful to you all for participating!
ReplyDeleteand i love the quote from Hamlet, Susan! {smile}

done and done. phew. at least it gave me a bit of a kick up the arse. Hello everyone! I can't believe I haven't come back since January.
ReplyDeleteI wander.
Off the top of my head:
ReplyDeleteWhy don’t men like romcom -
those light and fluffy novels they deplore?
Is it that they feel inadequate
beside those hunky heroes girls adore?
haha....i have no problem with rom com....viv...smiles.
ReplyDeleteThis was so fun!
